Terms of Use — beta draft
These draft terms cover the current TestFlight beta, its case content, optional Apple purchases, and voluntary story submissions.
Last updated: 14 August 2026
1. Agreement and beta status
By installing or using the beta, you agree to these terms and Apple’s applicable TestFlight and App Store terms. If you cannot legally agree where you live, use the app only with the involvement of a parent or guardian who can.
The beta is unfinished software. Features, case availability, language coverage, and stored local data may change, and the service may contain errors or interruptions.
2. Personal licence
You receive a limited, personal, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app and its case content for private, non-commercial play. You may not copy, scrape, resell, publicly redistribute, reverse engineer, or build a competing case catalog from the service except where applicable law expressly permits it.
3. Game content
Bureau of Odd Cases is entertainment. Its fictional mysteries may include crime, death, accidents, deception, or other dark themes. It is not professional, safety, medical, or legal advice.
The host is responsible for choosing cases suitable for the group and keeping the private answer away from the other players.
4. One-time purchases
Optional archives are offered as non-consumable Apple in-app purchases, not subscriptions. The App Store supplies the price for your storefront. Apple handles payment and refund decisions; use Restore Purchases to recover eligible access.
An entitlement may be removed after a refund, charge reversal, fraud finding, or platform revocation. Downloaded content is intended for offline use after access is verified, but permanent backend or device-cache availability is not guaranteed.
5. Voluntary submissions
Submit only stories, explanations, names, and contact details that you have the right to provide. Do not submit confidential material, personal data about another person, unlawful content, or material that infringes copyright, privacy, or other rights.
Submissions are moderated and may be rejected or removed. Final publication, attribution, editing, translation, and licence terms for accepted community stories must be confirmed before the public submission program leaves beta.
6. Acceptable use
You must not misuse the app, website, submission tools, or supporting services, including by:
- trying to bypass purchase or access controls;
- interfering with service security or availability;
- uploading malicious, abusive, deceptive, or illegal material;
- impersonating another person or claiming rights you do not have;
- using automated extraction against the case catalog.
7. Ownership
The app, website, Bureau identity, interface, artwork, and published case catalog are protected by intellectual-property laws. Except for a limited permission to use the beta, no ownership rights are transferred to you. Rights in a voluntary submission remain subject to the final submission licence described above.
8. Availability and termination
We may change, suspend, or end beta access; remove unlawful or unsafe submissions; or restrict access used in breach of these terms. You may stop using the app at any time. Device data can generally be removed by uninstalling or clearing app data, subject to platform backups and separately retained service records.
9. Disclaimers and liability
The beta is provided on an “as available” basis to the extent permitted by law. We do not promise uninterrupted access, perfect accuracy, compatibility with every device, or permanent availability of every case.
Nothing in these terms excludes rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded, including mandatory consumer protections. A final liability and governing-law clause will be added after the operator and release jurisdictions are confirmed.
10. Apple terms, changes, and contact
Where Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies, it forms part of the terms for the licensed iOS application. Updated terms will show a new date on this page.
A verified support address and the operator’s legal details will be published before general App Store release.
